This TV has been in my possession since about 1986. It originally was installed at the Albion Park Racetrack in Brisbane, monitoring the horse racing for the punters in the public areas. This would have been sometime prior to 1975. When Universal Telecasters - Channel 0 (now Ch. 10 ) commenced colour transmission this receiver was purchased and was installed in the foyer of the station. As the Supervising Technicians at the time were provided with television sets, this receiver was kept in top serviceable condition presumably for monitoring transmissions.

Interestingly, the set is a hybrid model with both valves and solid state protocols. It has a delta shadow mask CRT and uniquely, the printed circuit board has been produced by manually tracing the tracks. Being a shadow mask picture tube the EHT is very high - 30 to 40kV which requires shielding around the EHT cage to contain x-rays. It's been some years since it stopped operating and I have a box of spare valves and full set of operating and service manuals. The wooden cabinet is in quite good condition and presents very well with all original knobs present. I am moving house (after 40 years) and I really have to part with many treasured possessions. So this is the very last chance for someone to preserve a vital link in television broadcasting in Queensland and Australia. It would be a shame to relegate this piece of history to the dump but I am reluctantly forced to do so as I'm downsizing. I have been involved in radio, television and electronics for 65 years and it's time for me to switch my activities to more mundane pursuits such as gardening! I welcome enquiries from interested persons who can provide a home for an interesting relic. I have a couple of photos which I can forward to interested parties.

I for one would love to see some pictures. You can email them to Brad and he'll put them up on your post.

Presumably it's a G8 chassis? (sorry, no, you told us!) UK or Europe?

What are you asking for it?

Actually it can't be a K9A, there are no valves in that chassis.

If it uses 6KD6 compaction 12 pin horizontal output tubes, I would be very interested to purchase those.
To refurbish a lineal RF amp I built in the late 1970’s.(need 4 fairly matched ones).

But you can get them here, and they do matching.

OOPS! Is it colour?---I just read the description again----it has a shadow mask.

I remember sets like HMV Decca having incredibly high EHT, a very inquisitive trainee could draw some fantastic RF with the tip of one's screwdriver.

Hi Ian and interested readers. I stand corrected the TV is a K7A. My folder which came with the set has info on my set but somehow a service manual on a K9A got included amongst the manuals. Another correction- looking at the schematic the EHT was rated at 25kV. It seemed much more at the time and I remember it was always a bit of a challenge to keep the EHT in the area it belonged. The box of valves which came with the set which I presumed were spares include EL509, EL504, GY501, EY500A, ED500 condition?- unknown.

As to price? The receiver owes me nothing. I inherited it when I worked as a Tech at Ch. 0 and it was the first CTV in my home. I have an amusing story when I first brought it home my kids were aged around 14 and 10 years old. I didn't tell them it was a colour set. They watched it for a couple of hours and the elder one asked " Dad is this a colour TV?" This comment justified my not buying an expensive new TV. The pictures never had the over-saturated colours of current receivers but we were glad to see them. Disposal? I would gladly give it away but am hesitant to pack it up for delivery away from my locality. I will endeavour to send some pix off to Brad as suggested.

Looks like a drive to Brisbane might be called for!

How long can you hang onto it? A month?

I am definitely interested and can drive to Birissy to pick it up. SWMBO is up for a road trip!

Problem might be getting it into the back seat of my car. Could you please measure it around the base and the distance the neck hump sticks out? It would be more likely to fit in her car (VW Golf hatch) but mine is better for a long drive.

My email address is unhidden.

Thanks!

Re Philips K7A TV.
Hi Ian and interested people, measurements of the TV are: 780mm wide, 800mm high and 570mm deep. The item is described as a Television receiver and Monitor- with A/V inputs. We are in the act of moving house to Kingaroy ( 1 1/2 hours north of Toowoomba) but if we are still in Brisbane in a month's time the pickup will work out fine. We do hope to be out in a couple of weeks but we have been saying this for a couple of months so I'll keep you posted. Toowoomba is on the New England highway and you will be avoiding the crazy Brisbane drivers! However I'm sure we can work something out. Cheers, Grahame.

Hi Grahame

Just let me know when and where best suits & we'll fit in with you.

Does the 570mm depth include the CRT neck hump? What is cabinet depth without it? (I don't have 570mm depth over all the 780 width in the IS250's back door...) Next choice might be my son's ute.

Brisbane drivers can't be crazier than Sydney's!
