Collecting parts for my Tasma model 360 chassis.
75s seem to be unobtainium.
85 is the medium mu replacement but that's also unobtainium.
(I do have a 55 but that has a 2.5V heater. I'll use it if I have to, with a resistor in series with the heater.)
Anyone got a 75 or 85 they'd be prepared to part with? Bribe and/or swap for something I might have that you need?
How about a 1930s 5 pin speaker plug? The speaker I have has a 4 pin on it, chassis has a 5 pin.

I guess you've seen the untested ones on eBay.
If you're an HRSA member, the Valve Bank might have one at a pinch. I don't have a recent listing of their stock.
You could also try Joe Oost at Newtown.

You could use a 6SQ7/GT, 6B6G or even a 6AV6 to get you out of trouble.
They all seem to be very close electrically to the 75.

Yes, I was trying to retain the UX socket. I could still do that with a 55 and I have one of those.
I can get a NOS 6B6G for $40 plus postage......
Now, if I could find a 6B6G with a loose base, I'd be laughing because I still have the original broken 75 in the chassis.

At risk of saying I might have one squirreled away somewhere. My temporary fix is a valve base.
Prior to wiring you cut a disk, out of something like heavy insulating card, to sit on a zip tie, on the cable, inside the valve base. The disk is to go on the cable first.
Whist there are various ways to retain the card (strain reliever) in at the top, one method is to pre-drill 8 holes near the top of the base evenly around it, then thread copper wire into them Chris-cross.
May have a photo of one that's an octal base

Yes Marc I was thinking about the valve base idea this morning. Trying to think what I might have that's unwanted and has 5 pins. The broken 75 has 6....
I was thinking of something cruder than your elegant strain relief solution. Fill the base with hotmelt glue and press the cover from the existing 4 pin plug into that. The advantage of hotmelt over epoxy is you can get it out again if you ever have to.

Went for a wander through the second stash of bits did not find a dial glass for the HMV E43F, but there is a UX-5 base & another 5pin that is a centre pin job. UX-5 is four close together & 1 on its own in the other semi circle.

Thanks Wayne, Marc.
Wayne if that's a UX5 plug and not a valve base I'd much prefer that.
I hit on a neat idea for dial glass to suit many round dial radios. It's available from laboratory suppliers and it's called a "watch glass".
You might remember the watch glass from high school science classes.....
