Dear Friends.
I am currently compiling a list of remote controls for Televisions, Video recorders, and Audio equipment.
I'm asking for your help by passing on to me whatever information you can to help me in this task.
The compiled list will be made public, posted on this site, to assist collector and restorers.

The information that I require is as follows.
Brand
Remote number
Part No.
Product type, TV, VCR, or Audio

Sometimes the remote's part number is the type number, as in Teac remotes.
Newer remotes tend to only have a part number.

Please send whatever information you can don't worry about sending in only bits and pieces.
Also send information on corded remotes.

A draft list for Teac has been sent to Brad for inclusion in this post.

My e-mail address is visible.

Thanking all in advance

Wayne.

Hi Wayne!

Good luck with that!

You can download a library of remote codes along with software that can sample, store, load, compare, view, show formats and addresses etc. etc. There is a good manual, accessible from the Help.

http://dvc.commbox.com.au/downloads/COMMBOX/Control/CodeManager/Releases/code-manager-setup.exe

With the sampler you can sample a couple of keys from the remote and the software will search the library for a match.

The cross-referencing task would be monumental, and as far as I am aware no-one has done it successfully. Most of the codes you find in the library, which was truncated a couple of years back and older stuff stripped out, operated lots of models. Sometimes the codes will change through a manufacturer's model cycle - Teac does this a lot.
And finally, lots of mainly Chinese makers don't register their codes, set their address to zero, leading to rogue operation of other gear! Sample a Teac remote and see how many matches you get

Have a look at remotecentral.com, esp the forums. The Code Manager software can import and export the Philips Pronto format you'll find on that site.

As well as IR codes the library also includes RS232 codes for maybe thousands of devices, I don't know how many.

Hello Ian.

When I get an VCR that does not have a remote with it, often there is no way to set the tuning, UHF output channel, clock, timers etc.
For these and for the completeness of my collection I buy old remotes.

As an example I'm holding a Teac remote RC-1011. The list I have tells me that it works with the models MV-430 MV-435, and MV-445.

Akai had a large number of remotes. ones that you could find when missplaced, like the old key finders. Double sided remotes, basic controls on one side, full function on the other, another is held sideways like a miniture keyboard.

Beside me I have three Akai VCRs. They look very similar and must therefore be of the same series although they have different model numbers, two have vastly different looking remotes. I haveno idea what the remote for the third one looks like.

I am trying to piece together old lists and information from service manuals so that we will all know which remote goes with which TV or Video

Wayne.

Well, that download will help you identify the remotes you have......

I still have the old VCR library with codes going back to the early 80s......

We have a range of products that will emulate any remote.

The only brands that retained any semblance of backward compatibility from model to model were, Sony, Panasonic, JVC, LG, Sanyo, Samsung and Mitsubishi. All the others are a mess in that regard.

The remotes I have here...

1. Sanyo RB-X801/TP-X801, a combo stereo unit. Manual here: http://messui.polygonal-moogle.com/sch/consumer/x801.pdf

2. Bush DFTA52DAB, for a Bush digital set-top box with DAB+ and FM (has same number as the remote)

3. NEC RB-D41, for a NEC NDT-42 combo VCR/DVD-player

4. Audiosonic (KMart cheapie), for a flat-screen TV/DVD-player combo, Model TD2401.

Just be aware that remotes have been known to change during a model run and things are not always as they seem.

For example:

The NEC listed above has an equivalent LG model. The remote is a chameleon type - the VCR and the DVD codes are the same as those for the separate VCR and DVD player. and the remote changes the button functions to send different codes depending on if you pressed the VCR or the DVD button last. Depending on the firmware revision, the commands for the DVD Next and Previous keys are different.

But on the other side of the coin, all Sony VHS VCRs and mostly all Panasonic VCRs are basically compatible.
