Do not overlook awning for some jobs. Some of that is UV stabilised & rot proof and available as cheap offcut. Also makes good webbing when repairing cabinets.

What sort of awning do you mean? Open weave shadecloth? Synthetic canvas as in outdoor roller blinds and shadesails?

Principally the shade cloth types as they can be coarse or fine weave. Some of the blind stuff is just too heavy & unsuitable.

The fact that the shade cloth stuff is fairly rigid, avoids creasing & puckering. That however can be often avoided in cloth by mounting it on a cardboard stretcher, first. I will likely have a photo of something I used the stuff on as a grille cloth.

Gents, another good source is your local reupholsterer, they pull down old sofas there sometimes a good source of cloth and the bonus is its preused so it already looks vintage...regards ron

Looked at the grille cloth at Evatco and it looks good. The valve boxes are less than half price, including postage, from NZ.

The issue I have with Evatco grill cloth is they are all deliberate Fender reproductions.
I have got two types from them and they are some tough synthetic material.
