Most of the radio's of that era followed a similar plot. What I tend to do is either draw a layout diagram, or a diagram of the valves & coils where I expect to find them and in order RF to audio (or both) using the AutoCad.

It has symbols already in a Library. Print it & then play join the dots on it. If (experience) you note that say an OP valve has a cathode resistor & perhaps bypass cap, one instinctively knows where it is, so you pre-draw it in.

When playing join the dots a paint marker is handy (circuit board cleaner removes it) and the kids coloured pencils should be misappropriated. Red for B+ Blue for screens, Orange for secondary B+ ....

Also great to see if some one screwed up, redraw properly with values later.

I will ask the owner a bit more background on this radio.

I was told it was her fathers and she inherited it .

I have to explain to her the process of repairing it and if she still wants it done I will starting on it in a week or so after I get some other jobs out.

I spoke with the owner and she said it was her late fathers. She believed he actually built it . I asked if she meant the cabinet or the chassis.

At this point it was unclear but maybe her father being a farmer who had electrical knowledge she said could have fixed it , as she remembers it working when she was young.

Anyhow I have the go ahead to get it working, using the original chassis . I don't know how well these 3 valve sets worked , and if they were not that good on reception I have been given the go ahead to build a more modern valve set into the original chassis as she in tends to use it.

Can anybody tell me how well they worked.

Apologies for not replying sooner as I have been away from home for a week. The indication that the Lewbury was home constructed is probably right, I have had a suspicion that these radios were supplied as kits, or more probably a complete working chassis ready to be installed in your own cabinet, or perhaps built up by local radio dealers at that time.

I cannot tell you how well yours would have performed, however if my 5 valve superhet is anything to go on I would say very well given the technology of the day.

Just as I was getting excited about fixing this Lewbury , the owner pulled the plug .

She is getting the cabinet restored as this is the only bit of importance to her. She may do the chassis or put a modern radio in the box just so sound comes out.

Thanks for all the time that members put in to helping me with this one. Hopefully she has a change of heart.

If she decides to replace the original chassis, somebody should grab it and make it available to others.

I would be interested in negotiating with the lady should she decide to replace this chassis, that is if you do not want it. But whatever happens make sure it dos not end up on the tip!!!

I'm not interested in it , and she has taken it away. There was mention she would like to donate it to the museum or body for history preservation.

I don't know if I should contact her , maybe let it run its course and see if she contacts me with her intentions. You could speak to her directly once I get permission to make her phone number available.
