I have a soldering iron with a 1 mm tip which isn't going to be nearly big enough. (Components for valve radios aren't what I normally have soldered.)

What tip would be recommended? Is 3 mm big enough? What about a screwdriver shaped tip?

I have a Hakko FX-888 soldering iron.

Thanks

Dan

3mm ought to be fine.

I have a range of tip shapes and sizes for my Goot soldering station, but a pointed tip is what I use most.

When it comes to soldering to big heat sinks like a chassis, I use my trusty old Scope, like this one:

Your Scope looks like it's had a lot of use. Smile

Thanks for you comment.

That's not mine -- just a similar photo on the web. My Scope is rattier looking than that one. I've had it since the late 1960s.
