Can someone give me any info on this radio.
The only name I can find is Dominion on the dial glass and 322 stamped on rear of chassis.
Valve lineup 6B8G 6U7G 6G8G 5Y3G and output valve is missing, maybe 6V6G.
Has Rola ED speaker. BC and SW. As it has ARTS&P sticker would be aussie made.

I am not sure where this radio was made but it is certainly intended for the Australian market. It has an all-states dial and the Australian version of the ARTS&P label.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

Thanks again Brad for uploading the photos.
Noticed on the NZ site that the NZ ARTS&P has Dominion of New Zealand instead of
Commonwealth of Australia as used in Australia.

The speaker transformer has 7000 marked on it, so it won't be a 6V6, although that would certainly work.

I don't have my valve book with me, so I'm guessing that maybe a EL33 or 6F6G might be the right one.

At least it looks like a straightforward repair job (on the electronic side of things), assuming all transformers and coils are still ok.

Hi Robbert
Checked valve reference 6V6 has 5000 and 6F6 has 7000 load and would probably more likely as you say.
Will check connections on valve socket.

The tuning dial dates it to ~1937-1938.
Not many sets/models show 6PH on the dial which was the call sign that the ABC requested for their second station in Perth.
But were allocated 6WN.
6WN opened October, 1938.

Re examine the valves you a re quoting 6B8 & 6G8 one of those likely what you think is 6B8 is a 6A8 Both 6B8 & 6G8 are duo diode pentodes 6A8 is a pentagrid and will be V1. V2 will be 6U7 then likely, V3 6G8 then the op.

It could be back biased the filter caps look odd & not original NZ ones tend to have NZ on them. The two in parallel look to be a mismatch, that suggests to me tampering.

The pics are good, it's easy to track the circuit. Yes back biased. Extra electro is late 40s vintage, original is 30s. Very early add-on to reduce hum I'd suggest.

The back-bias resistor looks like it's 350 ohms (hard to read) which if so makes the output valve a 6F6.

When I looked up the data on the valves fitted I was curious as why there would be a
double diode pentode as the first valve, just quoting what was in fitted these positions, maybe the wrong valve was fitted in the first position.
Tracing out the circuit for the output stage the pin connections seem to match a 6F6G, the back bias resistor is 250 ohm and the other is 1 meg ohm.

That first valve has to be a convertor like 6A8. The 50K oscillator grid resistor is a dead giveaway.
Its a superhet so needs a convertor somewhere.
It had the wrong valve plugged in there!
Fred.

A quick check on Trove shows Dominion Radios were sold by the Bairds Department stores Perth in the late 1930 and early 1940's.

Trap. Beware of that "other" cap it may well belong.

Philips were one that put a 40V ( often 25μF ) cap across the back bias. If it is original its negative and that of the first filter cap on B supply will have their negatives on the CT of the transformer, as well as the grid leak of the 6F6. The second filter cap (load side of field coil / choke) will likely have its negative to chassis (but there are exceptions when the other by pass cap is used.). That "Extra" cap will have its positive to chassis.
