Have just purchased HMV radio, from what I can find out so far looks like a 1941 model 661 or 541.
Valve lineup 6J8G 6K7GT EBF2G 6V6G 5Y3G as per photo, 5 valves, BC and 1 SW band, 12" ED speaker. Chassis number 54856, can't find model number anywhere.
Looking at post on page 12 of Tech Talk posted by VK6XT 1/1/2010 HMV Model 661 this appears to be similar to the radio I have.
Can anyone help out with more details?
Have included photos.
Thanks
Normf.

No photos up yet, so is yours a radiogram or plain console?

Bah, meant to type or radiogram or plain console (fixed that).

The 541 is a radiogram and the 661 is a plain console. What other details are you seeking?

It has the usual phono input out the rear and phono select switch but it's plain console model

Looks like someone has substituted another rectifier.
Not always a good idea. Should be 5Y3G.

Also looking for circuit diagrams and maybe alignment details.
Some tips on cabinet restoration. It has a His Masters Voice decal on top of the cabinet,
are these available and also the panel that goes behind the knobs on the front.
Thanks

Looks like a 5AS4 in there instead of the 5Y3G. It will work, but it's 5 watts wasted, with the extra load on the transformer to consider as well.

I most certainly would not be turning that on until all those wax caps have been replaced, among other things.

Good luck with the refurbishment, if that's what you're planning.

Hi Robbert
It is a 5AS4.
Radio came with a bag of about 30 valve octal and miniature of unknown condition. There is a 5Y3GT with them.
At $20 for radio plus valves was good value.
I intend to restore this radio. I will work on each tag board module at a time replacing components as necessary.
The ED speaker cone is damaged and voice coil is poling so will need to replace that.
