 EKCO A144 Filter Choke Open Circuit

I have just recapped my Ekco A144 only to find the filter choke is open circuit. The circuit diagram I have has very little info regarding voltages and component specs. There is a number written on the top of the choke, SA375/13 but that's all I have.

It is L18 on the circuit diagram and has a 32μF electro on each side to earth. The rectifier valve is a UY41. The voltage from the rectifier is about 340V

I think I can replace it with a resistor but I have no idea what value I should use. Can someone offer some guidance please?

Usually, about 3K 5 Watts should work.

Update... used two 1600ohm and works well. Anode voltage to the UL41 output valve is 130VDC which is about in the middle of the specs and very little hum. Thanks Carl Smile Smile Smile

Hi Tippy,

Sometimes those chokes can be fixed relatively easily .... if the break is near the input/output leads. Try peeling back the outer layers very gently to expose the wires ... you may get lucky and be able to retain the choke.

I dismantled the choke but noticed it had a slight dent in the windings and that's where the break was. Several windings had been broken and there was no hope of repair. To keep the radio looking original I reassembled and refitted it and used it to mount the resistor on. Hardly notice the resistor and it's out in the open for cooling. Thanks for everyone's help.
