Brad: Agree that this is going to come to a dead end with no equipment.

I did suggest running the set without the rectifier. If there is no growling or smoke, then that tends to suggest that there is a B+ short.

A shorted output transformer has been sugested, based on, the fact that I would have fixed fifty or more Krieslers.

My other concern is that the fault is beyond the experience of the fixer. In other words I fear that Tim is swimming in the deep end.

Some sets, like the AWA I have at the moment can be real swines. All of the valves test good & I have substitutes. All of the voltages are within what one would expect, bearing in mind it the circuit I have, for what it is supposed to be, and what I have, tells me it is a one off.

Despite that the front end refuses to run?

This set may need an interstate trip to a bench with more resources?
I would rather identify the problem first. This set is an example of why I built a regulated bench power supply, with thermal fuses in the heaters and fuses in B+.

It is interesting that in over two hundred valve radio's that have recently transited my bench; only one was suspected of having a power transformer failure, none did.

Marc
