Hi all I just wrote a post and it disappeared.
I am still in trouble with this horrible radio, I have had it working but not all that well. A friend repaired the cabinet for me so I feel I must get it working as it should. I will try and add a picture. The problems are low and distorted audio. Does anyone know the value of the inductor between V3 (57) plate and grid 1 of the 2A5. The circuit is the original unmodified version of the 55 which uses the 2A7 up front followed by a 58. There are 3 inductors mounted on the back lip of the chassis have no idea how they were ever connected or why there was 3 of them. The circuit is crap cannot read many of the values all smudged and crossed out , circuit all black background. I suspect the distortion has something to do with the inductor not been in circuit. The bias circuit is also a headache. I replaced the reostat because the old one was spotty. If I disconnect the wiper wire I measure HT volts on the disconnected wire . Where is this coming from? If I remove V1 and V2 the volts disappear. There are no interelectrode shorts on these valves. I should not have attempted to repair this in the first place but I guess I do like a chalange. The component chart of the modified version is not any help and there was never a component list of this one.

As I have said before it was in shocking condition with bits missing a wires hanging out.

Regards, Jimb

The post is still there: Which is where I put my comment.

Note my comment re banning. I am a moderator on that other forum: Moderators can take down anything offensive, or that breaks the rules and the doer if they have to.

I didn't see that post, nor Marcc's reply, as that thread was not highlighted as having a new or updated post. (Brad?)

It was highlighted for me, I read both Jimb's post and Marcc's reply.

Sorry guys, I am lost with all the subject matter discussed here apart from the radio.

To my knowledge, no-one has done anything wrong and the new comment highlighting is working. The highlighting was reset for everyone last weekend when I cleared out years of stale data that supports this system.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

I see nothing offensive. As for the thread in question, I had to find it via Google.

The photo of that STC photo reminds me of something out of a Flash Gordon serial of that era.

.Jimb: The Radiomuseum entry for the STC model 550 lacks a photo. I'm sure Stuart Irwin would be willing to upload yours if you are happy to allow it.

Brad's the boss here and if you did anything 'wrong' I'm sure he'd let you know, so carry on regardless.

Great, I'll email you the address to forward the photo to, along with your permission for its use.

It would appear the post that was taken down landed in the for sale section.
I have the shakes bad and and often I hit wrong keys etc, especially when using IPad.
Again I apologise it was unintended.
Jimb.
