Hi guys
I'm after a schematic and/or service info for a Calstan Triomatic Radiogram. Valve line up is 6BE6, 6N8, 6V4, 6BM8 x 2.

It was sold new in 1963. No model information on the unit. Photos to come....

Thanks and Cheers,
George

You can likely muddle through without a circuit as it does not look like it has been tampered with.

The 6BM8's are a Triode Pentode and very common in that era. The only thing to watch is if it is "Ultra linear" which means one more wire on the speaker transformer primary side.

Of concern are the brown caps as they will be waxed paper types: Replace.

Second are the white ones. Those have a black line that suggests "Outside foil"; that is also typical of wax paper. If they have not got Polyester or a plastic name printed on them, they too will be wax paper.

The little one with the pink label is Styroseal: Leave it alone but if soldering on its leads heatsink them.

The electrolytic's may have dried out, many did in that era.

Watch the wooden pulleys any signs of splitting remove & coat with high strength Araldite.

Marc

Make sure that big metal Ducon filter cap doesn't get hot & leaky.

Like Marcc said, you should be able to repair it without a diagram.

I can see that pin 7 of each 6BM8 are linked, so there's no ultra linear to worry about.

There's a big white cap that appears to be leaking yellow liquid.

No model information on the unit

Looking at the chassis markings, I'd say its a 556S.

And yes, the radiogram has a white panel on the front Pete as does the radio dial. It looks great. It was actually purchased by the owner on the same day the JFK was assassinated. So great local history.

Just a quick observation...

That looks to be a "Stereo" Gram. It has one output transformer on the top and one under the chassis, They are the little ones witht he Green sleeving on the wire going to the speaker terminals.

Replace the caps as others have stated and the power cord.

I cant find any diagrams for that model but you may be able to give Kevin Chant a Email and he might have something

Valve radios, They just don't make them like they used to

The 2 x 6BM8 output tubes would suggest stereo, and I'd guess the S on the end of 556S does, too.

I'd think the double layer volume and tone pots would make it obvious, also the balance control in the middle.
