Hi Guys,
Had a search around (Internet and the forum) but haven't managed to find any wire that I am happy to use inside the chassis of the radiogram I am repairing. I need red and yellow to replace the perished internal wiring on the valve chassis. I assume 300V 105 degrees is needed and something like 16AWG?
Does anybody know of a source without having to buy 100M of the stuff?

Sold by the metre and fast order turnaround in my experience.

Whilst most wire will stand more than its rated voltage. Valve radios with filament rectifiers & Solid state rectifiers that produce voltage before the heater valves start to conduct, can get to 500VDC

From memory EVATCO's cloth type stuff was 600V. should be on the site. Assume Steve's is similar?

Also consider that when replacing Electrolytics on the "B" rail.

Evatcos is same ( they got theirs from me originally ) I don't keep much anymore of the restoration lines, unless the orders are world beaters in volume. Its not really worth my while you know !

A new knob il have in soon, very very rare and il have several 100 of those.

Think we have this under control even that we have no idea what it is? I will probably need a cap re-stock soon.

How things have changed with caps. I have a Grigsby-Grunow (1932) on the bench & that has two 8μF filters (Non Polarised) 100 x 30 x 50mm. The last set (1929) similar had a 50 OP valve & that had over 300V on the plate (max 450V with -84v on the grid (separate rectifier on its own winding) needed to watch the fingers with that one.

Sorry Marc, the details of the unit are in a separate Newbie thread, I should have added it in here. Mullard MAS1153. Original wires are multi-strand rubber coated. Replacing all caps except Mica, plus power cord and a broken dial string, and now internal wiring. The evatco link listed is a single strand, but there is multi-strand on their site.

Steve has kindly responded, but he is out of stock and my tiny order isn't enough to get him out of retirement... (joke ).

I have used EVATCO wire. You can actually buy the plug & cable (suicide cable) as one piece & thats actually cheaper if your not fussy & I will often recycle a scrapped IEC cable from a computer that has been tossed.

Just cut the IEC plug off & you have a good cable with a moulded plug. I tend to use glands for the mains wire. Most times it can be put in pointy end inside the pan & that stops the cable twisting.

For general running around buy stranded in more than one colour. To make life easier I normally use Orange on DC before the B+ choke red for the direct B+ after the choke & blue on the RF screens. That makes it easier to follow.

A bit of circuit board lacquer, or shrink tube (band) stops it fraying at the ends.
