Can you give me some indication of what may be the problem.
I recently bought a HMV Sprite radio and the problem I'm having is the radio starts up ok and then in about a minute it starts to fade away and I can olny pick up the ABC 2BL 2FC but only slightly.
It's not the batteries as they are new.
Thanks.

Is this HMV Sprite a JA-1H or a Sprite MkII JH-1H? The earlier JA chassis uses all germanium transistors & the later JH Chassis uses a mixture of both germanium & silicon types.

Both JA & JH chassis' are riddled with Ducon Redcaps. These Redcaps look like a ceramic disc capacitor & have a red mark on the top. Ducon Redcaps often fail and turn into resistors! Redcaps are probably the biggest reason why 1960's Australian made transistor radios don't work properly anymore. Also replace the electrolytic capacitors, particularly any made by Ducon. The blue Philips electrolytic caps seem to hold up ok.
