Hi everyone I am having trouble with the Mickey KL the volume control does not fully turn the sound off
you are still able to hear the radio playing at a quiet level I have changed all caps and all resistors have been checked that are in the audio section anyone ever encountered this problem I even had another bloke look at it and he could not fix it either.
Thanks in advance George

The KL uses a reflex circuit, where the detected audio is fed to the IF amplifier , virtually adding a stage of audio amplification. The effect you note is a fairly common one with a reflex IF/audio stage and I cannot offer a quick fix.
The radio also has negative feedback from the speaker, you may want to check that this is indeed negative feedback, not positive, as can happen if either the speaker or the output transformer have been changed and the wiring reversed. If this is correct, disconnecting the feedback connection at the speaker should increase the volume slightly.

The radio still playing at a low level of volume when the volume control is all the way down is a common thing with reflex circuits. Only fix is to use separate circuits. But the designers figured nobody would run a radio with the volume all the way down, so they didn't see it as a problem worth worrying about for the low cost radio. If that's the only issue, the radio is working as well as it did the day it left the factory.

One common issue that will reveal reversed phase on OP transformers, when the secondary is used for feedback is that they will oscillate. Philips 123L is one that does this, & when I rescued mine, it was disconnected as the Monkey that had tried to fix it could not work out why it was unstable when it was connected.

This effort caused a loss of volume and the speaker as it was obvious that he had changed the OP transformer, wired the primary backwards and drilled a hole in the cone of the speaker. That had damaged it in such a way that it was polling.

Many sets that have that pot with a tapping on it will not go to zero volume.

It also pays to check the IF's on these (& any other set that has had new parts put into the RF stages) as this can cause the set to be deaf and the Monkeys will insist on adjusting anything that moves, in the vain hope that that will fix it when it fails.
