How does one test a Crystal Earpiece?

I suspect the one on a a crystal radio I bough is faulty.

Could it be as easy as hooking it up to an audio oscillator with a 600 ohm output impedance?

Wayne.

It could be as easy as wiping the probes of an analogue ohm meter across the terminals, similar with a a battery & all with it not in your ear at the time. Listen for the "crackle"

If you have a transistor radio with an earplug socket that is compatible, that can also work well as a tester.

Put it in your ear in your bedroom and hold the sleeve while walking to the kitchen, and touch the tip to an earthed metal appliance Grin
