Dear Sirs
Firstly, hellow.
I am a new member to this site and this is my first post.
Although I have been collecting vintage radios for some time now (along with vintage everything else, as you do) I have only begun restoration in the last year with sucessful restoration of 2 of my sets, considering that I am only an ametures apprentice in the electronics field.
Now, the set I am having a problem with is an Australian Zenith, 1950 ish, am/sw gram, tube compliment 5y3gt, 6av6, 6aq5, 6n8 and two 6be6. If these are all correct for this set is unknown as info on these Zeniths seems nil.
When testing the plate voltages on the rectifier there is an unusual occurrence, when first switched on they read 250 volts but this quickly drops down to 25 volts on both plates. When switched off the voltage increases to about 170 then slowly drops down. Now I thought the trans maybe at fault but an even reading across both plates makes me doubtful of this.
Has anyone else experienced this.
When I got this set, a red power indicator light feeding off the heater of 6aq5 had crossed wires and shorted.
Any advice or info would be grately appreciated.
Kind regards, Rob.

Rob,
There is no radio as far as I know that uses 2 x 6BE6. I think you will find that one of them will be the iF valve, a 6BA6. As far as the B+ dropping when switched on, disconnect the line and replace them one at a time to find out where the short is even if you have to remove valves. There plenty of caps hanging off the B+ line that are probably leaking or dead short.
Hope that helps.
Regards
Rudy

Rudy,
thanks for a prompt reply, will give that a whirl. Yes, I thought 2 6be6 may have been a little bit too experimental by a previous owner.
Regards, Rob.
