Hey guys,

I have recentily got my hands on an old RADIOLARIA record player and radio combo, of witch I know nothing about!

But it played records very loud for the first month of having it then last week when I turned it on but it played the same record very dull. so thinking I have done a speaker, I flicked it to radio to find it was as loud as the day I got it

Volume adjustment is still possible when the record plays but needs to be all the way up to max to hear it play

I used it again on Friday night to find my records playing as loud as my radio fiction for the whole night but the next morning was back to being dull and quiet

Any information would be great as I have no idea what I'm looking at and the model number on the back is 552GA if that helps

Could just be a dirty contact on the radio-phono selector switch.

As above, but we need a bit more info on its history

It is highly probable that this has "Wax Paper" type capacitors which have now passed their use by date are leaking & have to be replaced before they fail. Severe hum is one of the tell tale signs.

Then of course there is the general condition of the wiring, some had rubber and that too deteriorates.

The fact that the radio works & turntable does not, Pings the fault to the switch & turntable, tone head & its wiring and the condition of that wire.

Thanks for the help guys,

I found a loose wire this afternoon and has worked well so far.

But well poking around I have found a 3 seperate wired hanging around down there they are all dead but I would assume they have a home

So are there anywhere around Melbourne or Victoria I can take it to just to get it checked out?

Thanks
