I am working on an AK 35 and have one stuffed inter-stage audio transformer. Replacements can be had from USA and fitted in the original can.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a locally available alternative? Even better a working original.
It needs to fit into the second (smallest) can.
Original should be (I think) around 1k ohm primary and 3.5K ohm secondary measured with basic ohmmeter, but any 1:3 audio xformer should work.
Anyone else into these early USA radios?
I have a Crosley ACE 5, Crosley mod 50, Crosley mod 52, AK 20, AK 35 and AK 40. At the mo I seem to be obsessed with them!

It actually is the ratio that is important and the yanks still make a lot of the parts that will fix them. Unfortunately the locals, in many cases, over inflate the prices and whinge because they can't sell it.
I have only sorted a handful of these early sets.

Marcc, I have bought transformers before from AES. Price is great but postage is the killer.
Thought I might find something suitable local. (or may be snag an original from someone .

I have before, from memory, bought from EVATCO, but there are others. Check RS components & WES, they often have stuff like a good range of SM caps 500V.
I would note that EVATCO have 2 & 3 Watt resistors.
There is also an add in HRSA Radio Waves, for rewinding. Do note that I have seen & heard a lot of Negative feed back about their advertising pages and there seems to be a reluctance to clean them out, & a few advertisers are not innocent parties in this. Although I can forgive at least one, he has died.

This is where the clubs are lacking a bit I think.
In the case of the HRSA they already have a website so this suggestion shouldn't come at a great extra cost - put the 'yellow pages' or whatever they call it now online and perhaps even do the same with the entire Radio Waves publication. That's the easy bit. The more time-consuming bit would be keeping the member's section of the site up to date with information such as financial status so those members who are paid up can access the restricted area. I'm not sure how the status of member mortality could be managed but once it is known that a member has passed away at least the online version of their ads could be closed off at that time rather than circulating out of date information.

All HRSA ads should have a time limit on them. Service type ads should be cancelled at least yearly and require renewal.

In the light of complaints that I know have been made to them, perhaps the membership needs to move people and refresh ideas, but the ideal forums are the meetings for those wanting to get stuck into the executive, but if its anything like a couple of Clubs & Organizations that I am in, its getting the willing horses prepared to do the jobs.
I would agree on a technology update, again only two Clubs (Radio & Car) that I am in have seen the light & are electronically mailing the newsletter, at a considerable reduction in cost.

Although not politically correct or environmentally friendly, I much prefer reading the hardcopy and don't mind paying extra for the privilege. I've tried reading books and magazines on e-readers but its just not the same. I suppose I'll have to get used to it one day.
