Hi I'm new here and fairly new to valve radios, so please be patient.
Many years ago as an apprentice I was given an old Philips 148 to use in the buthers shop where I worked, it sounded great and gave good service for several years. I left it when I changed jobs but left the radio behind.
Well now 30 years later Ive got another one off Ebay.
It is in good condition apart from one valve that is literally broken in 2.
It is the one that sits horizontally in the frame above the battery.
I cant give figures because the engraving or paint is gone and all thats left is a manufacturing code between the 9 pins.
Can anyone help me id the valve and locate one
Steve

This page shows many of the Philips portables and shows their valve compliments. If you are able to read the type numbers on the rest of the valves you should be able to find out what the one without a type number is.

Hope this helps. Whoa

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

An old trick to make the numbers more clearly visible is to place the valve in your freezer and after a few minutes take it out and after a few seconds they will appear

Hi All,

The only 9 pin valve in the 148 is a 6V4 rectifier. Only needed when the radio is operated from the mains.

Can one still buy the A and B batteries for this model? Smile

Cheers, Graham...

The batteries will tend to cost an arm & a leg.

If its capable of running on the mains ..... go there.
