Hi,

I am an absolute novice but love my vintage music! I have a 1940s Airstream radio (belonging to my great grandfather) and a HMV Caprice stereo.

The auto function on my HMV does not work - either that or I do not know how to work it! Several people have attempted though, and it does not deliver. On the odd occasion when you're not expecting it, it will jump halfway up the record and suddenly kick over again, so I have faith it can happen!

Can anyone provide a user manual, or any idea where I could start with this? While I am a novice with vintage equipment I am a designer/jeweller and fairly confident in my technical abilities - but all guidance welcome!

Thanks so much to anyone who can offer advice!

P.S. does anyone know of an actual repairer in the Newcastle region? Perhaps this would be a better option for me!

Whilst I have a pet hate for turntables, I have been painted into the corner, winning a couple recently.

Big issue, they are supposed to be lubricated every so many hundred hours.. never happens.

The Colaro in a HMV decided to do that, the mechanism stuck: Cause, ceased. It in common with the Grundig (Philips) turntable & the utes speedometer all it needed was a clean in a few places, new grease & oil on the motor oil pads.

What breed of turntable in that. BSR (British Sonotone)
Garrard (Plessey) etc.

Marc

I think the HMV Caprice may have used a BSR UA14 autochanger.

Here is a youtube clip of a UA14:

And here's a link to the UA14 Operating Manual:

I hope this is the same autochanger that is in your Caprice.
