Hi all,

I found this television recently at the local tender-centre, alongside my 1956 Astor SJ. It is a B&W valve set, with an unusual metal cabinet (with a fake but now peeling and faded vinyl wood-grain finish). The tuner, speaker and image/volume knobs are on the side of the set

While looking at it, a sticker fell out of the bottom. It read:

TYPE: NT 3006
0X1
MADE IN AUSTRALIA

I'm guessing it was from the chassis or one of the parts, such as the CRT. This set also, in some photos, appears to have gone to air. As far as I can tell, it still contains a vacuum. It is just an accumulation of something on the inside of the glass panel on the front, that makes it look like it has gone to air.

My friend Nathan Brown has brought up the possibility that this might be a home-made set. I'm thinking that is a possibility too, for several reasons:

- There is no name badge or model anywhere on the exterior.
- The metal cabinet appears to have been crudely folded and joined together (with pop-rivets)
- The panel on the side (with the tuner) doesn't match the set, and looks rather crude.
- The speaker grille doesn't match the set either.

Any thoughts on this?

You might have to open it for somebody to identify the chassis.

The CRT bezel looks like the only original manufacturers part of the cabinet.

My guess: this was recovered by a resourceful tinkerer, from a previous life in which it either was built into a wall or other shopfit cabinetry (say in a public area) OR its original cabinet had been destroyed by flood, fire, termites, children, or little green men with tiny hammers and a grudge.

The case looks like a home made one. Without seeing the chassis it's hard to say if it is a production chassis in a home made case or a home built chassis.

The sticker with NT 3006 is from the tuner. It is the model number for a 13 channel Philips Tuner. It was used in HMV, Kriesler and Philips TV's but someone could have used a different chassis with the tuner so it doesn't really help identify the TV.
