I have an opportunity to upgrade/replace my aerial set up due to pulling it down to get my roof replaced. Presently it runs from the back corner of the shed to the TV mast at the front of the house, a span of 14 metres.
Its not very high up and at its lowest point is only 1m above the iron roof.
Now obviously this is less than ordinary.
The wire is only thin hookup wire, not much bigger than cheap speaker cable.
I plan to relocate it and try and get it higher.
I have 'acquired' some stranded bare copper wire, with a diameter approx that of 2.5mm T&E 240v cable.
Would this be a better proposition, or does it not really matter? Is it height and length I should aim for?

Ben

Hi Redxm. Just drilling down into some old tech talk posts when I came across yours from Aug 2013.

As you had no replies I will try and help.

Is it for local AM broadcast band?
Do you try for AM DX (long distance)?
Do you listen to HF (short wave from say from say 2MHz-20MHz?
Does your receiver have an RF amplifier?....or
brand/type of receiver being used?

I metre above an iron roof is not a good Idea.
If AM broadcast only, including DX...I use a tuned loop with extraordinary results. Will send details if your still around.

Dave....Tamworth.

Hi Dave
bit of a void question now. I did manage to get it 3m above the roof, but its all pulled down now pending a move.
