There is a good website cool386 (sorry don't know how to paste links) which has a lot of useful info on vibrators.

Just copy/paste or type the link. I'll change it to a hyperlink once I pass by it. Smile

The new forums will do this automatically.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

In the Ferris there is a tuned RC seris network, a 0.1μF and a 20 ohm resistor across the contacts.

The parts list specifies a 200v rating cap. I used 630v rated metallised polyesters, the yellow ones from Evatco which I generally use in rebuilds.

Thanks for the tip on links, will try it out.

Cheers

That may be a way of quenching the spark & lowering the back emf?

Generally the back emf of vibrators & kettering ignition can be hundreds of volts. This is quite often not realised.

That spike in an ignition is not going to damage a globe but can damage solid state stuff.
