I am currently working on one of these radios and hope to use it mainly on battery power as a portable.
Unfortunately the cover indicating the switch positions has split off and can't tell which position the power switch is in.

Have noticed when turning on the power there seems to be two operating positions for the viabrator power supply.

One position the viabrator runs and get about 110v d.c at the filter caps.

Other position the dial lights come on, nearly 200 v appears at the filter caps and the viabrator buzzes louder.

Is this normal operation for this radio ?

Thanks for any advice on this.

Hi Simplex, That is the correct operation for the model 94. Ferris called it "High Drain" and "Low Drain" to help conserve the battery when running as a portable.

If you unlock your email address in your profile page, I'll send you a schematic and a voltage table showing the voltages on each valve under both conditions.

Cheers, Graham...

Thanks Graham for the guidance, thought it would be something like that.

Also thanks very much for the offer of the schematic and voltage tables which would be a great help.

Have unlocked the email address (hope I did it the right way), and will keep a look out for them.

Work is well under way and hope to have the set fully running this weekend.

Cheers, Nick

Have unlocked the email address (hope I did it the right way)

Click on Control Panel

Click on the button next to Show Email Address which should then turn green.

Finally, click on Change
