Hi all.
I just wanted to point out that it is probably not a good idea to use a 5AS4 rectifier in this radio. While the radio will work fine the 5AS4 filament current will put a strain on the power transformer. Best to use what is intended - a 5Y3GT. Plus I need a good 5AS4 for my 1956 black & white AWA TV!!

Flilament current - 5AS4 = 3A, 5Y3GT = 2A.

I probably should clarify this on the ROTW page. The valve line-up for all radios featuring there are listed with the valves they were purchased with rather than what they should contain as I din't have the benefit of AORSM manuals when Radio of the Week came along.

This will change with the new site as all static and dynamic content will undergo a review before the new site rolls out, probably early next year.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

Thanks for the offer JOEJ, but I just ordered a couple of 5AS4's + some other goodies yesterday from Antique Electronics Supply in the US. I would of prefered some Aussie made NOS 5AS4 except some HI-FI nut has discovered how good they are and have pushed the prices up. All my 5AS4's are used & a bit weak so I am presently using a NOS AWV 5U4GB for the rectifier in my AWA 202-C telly for the time being.
