Hello all,

I am attempting to identify a radiogram (I believe that is what this would be called) that was passed to my wife from her grandparents.

Pictures have been emailed to be attached to this post.

Basic description:

It has a gramophone/record player in the left cupboard, a radio in the right, with the word "Palmair" across the top of the radio.

The majority of the record player body seems to be cast iron, it has 3 selectable record sizes (33, 45, 78 from memory), and the radio face has each Australian state listed vertically.

Two record storage sections flank a central speaker underneath the top two doors.

Power appears to work enough that a light will come on in the radio face, but that is about the extent of it.

I am essentially looking to restore it myself over time or find someone in Sydney that is willing to take a look for/with me.

Cheers all,
Big Willy.

Sorry for the late reply, but this could be an earlier version of a 1954 32volt Standard radiogram that I have, made by Reg George from Adelaide during the period 1929 through to 1969.
Similar cabinet, catches & arrangement, but this could apply to many brands of this era.
They usually had a Standard nameplate with Made in Sth Aust riveted on the back of the cabinet.
I have found very little information on this brand.
regards
Stephen

Palmair was a H.G. Palmer house brand.

There was a bit of discussion recently here about the history of H.G. Palmer chain-stores around the country and its ultimate downfall due to a credit-squeeze.
