Would anyone have a circuit diagram for the above Radio please? Also wanting a knob to replace the one which has lost its "bright" - does anyone have one for sale? Finally, while I'm being so forward, the dial glass is mostly obliterated. Would anyone have the artwork from which I could make a new display?
Hoping these are not too much to ask,
John.

I've got the schematic and notes for the HMV chassis 62, which I think covers your model. It has the same valve line-up at any rate. I'll email that stuff to you.

If you get stuck, member "castaway" on here makes reproduction knobs.

HRSA member Michael Ranaan may be able to help with a repro dial. Email him at raanan (at) optusnet (dot) com (dot) au

I actually have one and several variants as wrecks. I will have a look at what is about, there were dial glass variations as well. My set is Green. (Photo)

Make sure that you check resistors. If it has a 10K resistor feeding the screens of V1 & V2 it will likely be cooked. replace with 2Watt, or Parallel two 1 Watt 22K.

Most of that series were similar. Toss all paper & Electrolytic caps. Some of them had a black pitch covered speaker transformer. These have a high attrition rate. Do check first.

You can do a resistance check between Pin 7 and pin 1 or on identifiying the primary of the OP transformer, strike a small battery across it & listen for the sharp noise in the speaker. Output valve is a tall 9pin at the mains transformer end 6M5

Gentlemen, thank you so much for the advice & diagrams.

GTC, this is exactly what I need & I thank you.

Marcc, mine is green also - one of four radios my wife bought for me as a present. After safety checks, I powered it up & was rewarded with a soft hum & not much else. As I was making voltage checks I became aware of a "hot component" smell. Long story short, C13 was very leaky but it didn't show on my multimeter. It did show some 3 ma when attached upon the terminals of my Silicon Chip cap leakage tester (18 December 2009). When I removed said cap the radio played beautifully. My wife did wonder why the radio worked without this component when it didn't when installedSmile
John.

I recently scored some extra test equipment: atke advice from an old hand.

Not one of them was powered up before I looked. One was obvoius as a "been fiddled with as the out put terminals were missing. That had to have every resistor & a couple of caps & the cable replaced. I still have to organise terminals for it and another.

I did not apprecate on two of them the two wire cable & the cap from metal chassis to neutral (you hope)... crazy!

Sanwa I am looking for a wiring diagram I note a cut wire? The leader Sig gen had oil filled caps, which are on par with papers .... bin. They all leak. Electrolytic was good, mains cable burnt in the middle. It is actually illegal to sell it like that.

Loved th 700V electrolytic in the RC Bridge / Leakage tester.... serious volts in there.

As I tested & cleared the faults....... no smoke all go.

Don't bother turning the Nipper back on until you replace all of the paper caps & electrolytics. Check resistors as you go.

Marc
