I just had a poke around and noticed some tutorials for AM transmitters. I might have a bit of an experiment with one of those soon.

Phil's Old Radio's has an AM transmitter to build. I did & it works very well. (www.antiqueradio.org)
As we live in a country which has 240 Volt mains, a small stepdown transformer from Dick Smith will supply the heater & HT volts for the 117L7 valve.
