I note that shows a sheilded transformer.

As that shield will bleed a charge to the chassis, it would be a good idea to fit a three wire cable (ANE)

Ok...

Can a 6B8G be subbed for a 6G8G?

What would the best of the cct Model variation be as I might scrap the set and start fresh building it up to be the "Best" that it can be.

All done RedXM. It appears that I overlooked that file when I installed a new hard disc a few weeks ago.

Hmm..........

Well this set that I have is a basket case.

The power, OP and IF transformers test ok. So I am up for a complete rebuild since I cant make out any of the resistors or caps.

The case is in very good condition Smile minus the badge! Sad

Just wondering what is the best performing version of this set build from? Smoke

You're lucky to find one which hasn't had the louvers broken from too much tension on the connecting rods.

You'll eventually find a badge, even if you have to buy a wreck. This guy makes repro badges and may be able to assist:

I think that the set that I have is the wreck. If someone has a good chassis in a busted case then I might be interested.

At the moment is is just sitting on a shelf in the shack looking good.

Other than that I plan to strip the chassis down completely and do my first FULL rebuild instead of just caps and the odd resistor!

A note with the louvers: From dismantelling one, I noted that originally there appeared to be washers, made from what looked like blotting paper, seperating each layer.

This was likely in part, to stop them rattling. It also served to create some "give". Unfortunately the washers had around a 1/4" hole and the rods are 3/16", so as soon as things got a bit loose, they fell out & dissapeared down the tube. I felt that glue was not the answer & used 3/16" fibre washers. These did not rattle.

A good sharp photo (tripod) of the inside may help us identify resistors. However, noting the location of the component &comparing it to the circuit, should help in identifying the part, even if a wrong one is in there.

Before looking at a circuit, advise if it has a permanent magnet speaker, with 6X5 or Electrodynamic with 5Y3.

It is easy to spot & confirm the valve, 6x5 will have heater wires on pins 2&7. 5Y3 2 & 8 are the filaments.

I'd be looking at that the other way around. A good case is rare; busted louvers abound so you'll find a good chassis with a busted case more often than the reverse.
