I'm sure I read somewhere over the past few days that this was the last valve radio Kriesler produced. I don't know if that's true but I remember well how heavily reliant my family were on our unit back in the sixties with memories of Sammy Sparrow as I dressed for school, Frank Hyde calling the Rugby League and Tony Mundine in the ring (I know that was well into the 70’s but it show how long we had that old radio).
I came across a couple this week on Ebay and I knew both would find a good home with my family.
I think this is a good choice my first restoration project, my logic being that these are the simpler and newest of the three different models I've recently acquired.
I also want to give one to my dear old mum who just can't get her head around all the buttons on her current set-up and it's sooo... much easier to have a dial with the station call signs displayed rather than those dang frequency numbers.
As I couldn't find any existing topic on this model I thought I'd be a bold new member and start one. I don't have a schematic so I'd appreciate any help in that regard as I will welcome any words of wisdom..

Yes, the 11-99 was Kriesler's last valve mantel set. There is some debate as to when it was first manufactured, but the earliest schematic is dated 1961 and it seems it was in production for a few years, and going by the number of them appearing on eBay from time to time, they made quite a few of them and many have lasted the distance.
We had one at home in 1963 and I have one of the same colour in my current collection.
It's a simple 4 valve set. I'll email you the schematic.

That' great thanks - schematic received (still waiting on actual radios).
I told my brother last night that I had them on order and he said it was the best radio we ever had so I know that he wants one too.
Ah.... nostalgia, it's a funny thing.
EXTRA: As I was about to submit this post the first (of two) arrived.

Not a bad radio and a good choice as a first restoration project. One variant of this radio was the use of a silicon diode instead of the 6X4 rectifier shown on the in-cabinet circuit.
This was not a modification by a later owner, as there was never a socket in place for the 6X4 and the wiring on mine is all original.
Don't be tempted to change yours to save a valve, as you will certainly end up with a much higher HT voltage, possibly causing some problems elsewhere.

Jesus Christ! Now that is a name I haven't heard of for a long time - Saaaaammmyyyy Spaaaarrooowwww and Garry O'Callahan on 2UE. Sammy would pop in right after the 08:00 news bulletin as far as I recall.
They were the days, ay. Childhood seemed so much a matter of routine - up and at it for brekky, Sammy Sparrow on the radio on the way to School, home in time for afternoon tea, footy training and then the Mickey Mouse Club on Ch 9 at 17:00.
With all that and my Lego, Hornby railway and Saturday arvo at the races with my Dad, who spent as much time buying me pies and icecreams as he did trying to win bets, I think my life was complete.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

My internet is running slow (for the next two weeks) as I'm over my monthly quota hence my late reply.
Gandhn - Thanks for the info and the confirmation it's a good for a starter project.
Brad, your description is all very familiar this end too except my Saturdays were locked away working in my dad's milk bar.
Both 11-99's arrived. I'm reviewing my old Electronics’ notes while also arranging for a work space here at home.
Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi, I have just stumbled upon this site as I was looking for a schematic to the Kriesler 11 99. It has sat in mum's garage for years and I would like to get it going for her. I have a little knowledge of valve equipment and feel confident I can track down the problem with a schem. I too remember this old thing almost permanently on in the kitchen during the 70s, but it was stuck on 2DU (the local station) and occasionally on the ABC. They were our only choices then.
GTC, I noticed that you were able to supply a scematic. I would really appreciate it if I too could get a copy.
Regards
Mark
