Hi all, I have just posted in the member introductions page and thought that I should also ask here for some information on this radio.
I have just managed to acquire a Technico Aristocrat portable radio in good condition. I believe it may be a Model 859 although the red ink for the model number is smudged and it is difficult to distinguish the numbers. The serial number is RI6998 and it looks a bit like a small sewing machine case, made of wood and covered with a fawn and brown patterned cloth with two latches similar to those on my old brown school-case. The tuning display is square and on the left, it has a similar style to the Airzone Cub featured on this site although it is fawn in background colour and not the red wine colour of the Airzone and does have different display markings. The speaker is on the right covered with a cream cloth with the tuning and volume knobs below the speaker all encased in a brown cover. Below this by removing two screws reveals the battery compartment with two 45v sockets? and a 1.5v socket? (I think this is what they are but I am not sure)
I would like to be able to get this radio operational and any information as in schematics or info would be appreciated.
regards
Chris

The Tecnico model 859 is a 5 valve battery-operated portable manufactured in 1947/48.

The A (filament) battery is 1.5v and the B+ is supplied by two 45 volt batteries.

Some D cells in parallel will provide the A battery and you could make your own 45 volt batteries with 5 x 9v in series, although those 9v batteries can be pretty short-lived.

However, these days many people use DC-DC inverters made by Tony Maher, which are powered by AA batteries:

Meanwhile, if you "unhide" your email address in your profile, I'll send you the Tecnico schematic.

Thank you GTC, I have, hopefully, revealed my email address with the changes to my account here.
and I will look into the DC-DC inverters that you have suggested.

Okay, schematic sent.

You can re-hide your email address if you wish.
