Hi, I was wondering if 6J8J is a common valve and is there
another valve that will do the job?
Thanks.

I assume you mean triode-heptode 6J8G.

The triode-hexode 6K8G has similar characteristics, but the pinout differs.

It's a pretty common valve & you should have no drama at all in acquiring one form the HRSA valve bank if you or someone you know are a member. Direct equiv is 6J8EG & CV859.... which I imagine would probably be harder to get here in AUS. Something I Have found useful although it doesn't offer any equiv for your 6J8 is TDSL personal which can be downloaded from here.. http://www.duncanamps.com/tdslpe/download.html
It hasn't been updated for while but is still a useful tool with links to data sheets etc

Cheers Paul

Valve is 6J8G Triode Hexode, offt he top of my head ECH35 is the philips / European eqivalent.

If you are only testing the radio you may not get quite the same performance but 6A8 and 6J8 are pin interchangable, despite 6A8 being a heptode.

There can be band spread issues in Astor doing that especially with JJ if you use 6J8.
