Howdy all. my name’s Jeremy and I’ve got a horrible habit of picking up hobbies that I’ve had no previous interest in . Now I’ve got myself invested in this thing after reading about how they operate for the last 6 hours

I bought a Phillips La Ronde at a garage sale today off a bloke who used to be a technician. He had spent a heap of time replacing capacitors etc. but then changed careers.

I know it needs a new cartridge for the tone arm - the seller has put a more modern one on there for higher fidelity but couldn’t get it to work (so if anyone has one to suit, send me a message Smile !)

The issue is trying to diagnose now is that I only get a “ humm “ on the radio setting - no static or variation in the humm when I try to tune it . There was a wire running around the entire inside of the cabinet which ran no where - has a double ended screw connector on it, and the wire out of the circuit board on “Int. Aerial” was just flopping around - I assume these go together ?

Any help would be awesome !

Cheers !

Welcome Jeremy!

Send Brad some pictures (see instructions) so we know what we are dealing with!

If the original TT is a Philips, cartridges are not available.

If the previous owner tried to install a magnetic cartridge, that probably won't work in that unit either!

Is it a solid state or a valve unit? The "La Ronde" moniker was used on many models.
