I have just restrung the dial on my S S tablegram and have a question on the dial pointer direction vs knob rotation.
The original, (since production) cord broke at the knob spindle and I was able to draw the cord path exactly, except for the direction of wrap around the spindle.
Using my drawing, I replaced the cord and went around the spindle in the way that looked right, that is from the right side of the drum down to the right side of the spindle, wrap 2 1/2 turns, then from the left side of the spindle up to the left side of the drum. It looks right and operates perfectly, except that the pointer moves right to left with clockwise knob rotation. Intuitively, I feel that it should go left to right with clockwise knob rotation.
To correct this, I would have to cross over the cord at the spindle which may cause the cord to not feed the drum correctly and it just doesn't look right.
My question(s) are, does anyone know for certain how the original went, as I know some radios did go right to left, but they are the minority.
Does it really matter that much?
Harold
