Here's the aftermath of an electrolytic can explosion. The 0C3 tube located next to it was blown to smithereens.

Guys I'm guessing he has been quite busy. I'm sort of guessing that because he is working in the hospital system and we have the new variant hitting hard he may be in demand.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas
I love this site and appreciate all the help you have given me.

The old address has not worked since I started self-hosting. Unfortunately I have not been successful at getting the mail server to relay correctly and am relying on addresses which I get hosted externally. The old one is not likely to come back because it was also being spammed.

As for work - very difficult at the moment due to staffing levels but the job has to be done none-the-less. It will be good come the end of March when major refurbishment work is complete and there is less to manage. I am looking forward to a break once that has passed.

Photo is up - I agree, very messy. I've seen worse but that is bad enough.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

Thanks for the photo. I can imagine it made quite a noise.

Ahh! what a lovely reminder of what often happens when exuberance overrules procedures. To me that is not an unusual incident as I have had to fix a few sets where that has happened and worse.

Newbies can learn from the scenarios, that produce such spectacular entertainment. A lot of that audio equipment has some really nasty B Voltage.

There is a Philips line amp here that runs the full 300V on class "B" 6CM5's and can run other stuff. I suspect the HV current available to be close to 500mA and dangerous. Not toys for amateur's to be playing with.

I once had a TV voltage doubler cap explode in my face! Memorably unpleasant, I could have been blinded.

Pick the wrong cap and even certain reformers can potentially cause one to blow up in your face. I have actually seen a few oil filled caps put on the mains in the 60's that have added Christmas decorations (aka tinsel & tat) to the inside of a set.
