Being transistor, I see no reason for getting an accurate reading whilst its in circuit. The fact that there are different readings is the the coupling caps are often electrolytic. I do not like using conventional Ohm meters in transistorised stuff as a reverse polarity can do damage.

That also applies to low ohms per volt meters.

The centre (sweeper) does not look like a good joint.

I would with perhaps the aid of solder wick remove it. Those two holes near the drum look like they may have had something in them?

Thanks GTC for the suggestion of taking the D shaft on to new pot.

I'll get some of this contact cleaner tomorrow from jaycar and give it a go cleaning first before dismantling.

Yes, the resistance test needs to be done out of circuit.

Learning the technology is part of the process of learning how to fix. With the solid state stuff, you cannot get away with many of the things you do with valve stuff.

If you don't ask you will never learn and if you don't know how to do it, ask!

That dial cord spring has passed its use by date. Some of the engineering suppliers may have them that small, that's where I get the ones for the valve radios.

Those boxes of assorted springs/washers/o rings etc from Aldi are invaluable.
Every time I go to Aldi I come out with something useful.
