Consider instead painting the inside of the light covers with silver or white paint. I did something similar with a single lamp dial on a console recently and, if anything, the dial is now too bright!

This set is finally coming together. I got the new dial for it from Michael Ranaan and he has put me onto a fellow that makes Perspex covers so all I really have to do is finish the cabinet and bobs your uncle.

Just found out that this radio is a Lekmek. That makes it really worth while restoring.

Source?

If it is, then it may be a model 617, although (again) the 6C6 doesn't fit that line-up.

QUOTE: Looks like a repair in the late 50s by a small service shop. Replaced grid coupler cap to the 42. Had run out of pigtail electros so pressed a twistlug can he had on the shelf into service.

I hate the way he mounted it. Looks like it could flop onto the terminals of the power transformer, causing a short.

I actually have a photo of a Midwest where one of those caps had be tied in with string. I have seen them glued in with "Roof & Gutter" silicon & one Monkey actually (fencing) tie wired a couple of bare metal ones to the chassis, so much for the back bias.

Wa2ise it was flopping about and yes could have touched the 240 volt tags very easily.
Richard Boyd is sending me a dial perspex . After showing him the escutcheon he said it may be a LEKMEK. YEAH I got a little excited lol.

That cap looks over capacity for an 80 and under voltage for an 80. I would vacuum the pan or it might sound "fluffy". You of course need to appreciate the Monkey science here? The cap is never going to hit anything with the chassis up the other way.

Don't worry the Chassis has had a nice clean. With the hint that it may be a LekMek I went surfing the web and found two hints. Similar finish to the bottom of the cabinet and extremely direct wiring like this one. I learnt that Lekmek did produce kit sets which might explain the lack of branding and the date on the chassis and no ARTsP . I think they may have had a kit build service as well

This is not a model 617 as it has no short wave.

This beautiful set is finished and boy what a looker. Dial by Michael Ranaan and perspex by Richard Boyd.

I see the silhouette of an arachnid in one of the older photo's, advanced future proofed set with a web browser.
