So after being away for a while, I am now back onto completing this project, the cabinent top after following Vintage Pete's suggestions stripping back and rubbing on shellac looks great and retains that orginal look, now I am thinking of ether trying to reactivate the rest of the cabinet or stripping and shellac. (See my other thread for great input from Vintage Pete)
Thank you
I am also now considering if it is worth tring to follow the advise on the Chasis painting, I have the radio working really well, so am a little nervous about pulling it apart and preparing it for acrylic spray paint. I will see if I can find the best colour match first then decide.

Does anyone know which knobs types came orginally with this model and where I may get these. I have search photos of this radio but cannot determine the style of knobs, I know the ones that came with it are not the orginal, only two were the same, the other a screw on type the comes off a STC jellymould.
Thanks George

Re the label: I am back home and find that I can't send emails from here either, though I can receive them. So I am restricted to sending emails via Optus webmail at the moment, which does not appear to have a facility for attachments.

I have been in contact with Optus who think it is a Mozilla Thunderbird problem. However since talking to them I find I cannot log in to my Optus account - wrong password. And can't apply for a new password as it does not accept my account number. Very frustrating.

In years passed I have had a number of occasions where the Optus internet logon password has unaccountably changed. Since for many years I have kept an encrypted file from which I copy and paste all passwords that aren't in daily use, and I don't have problems with any others passwords than Optus passwords, I am suspicious of Optus systems.

Anyway, with that off my chest I can say that I haven't forgotten about this. At one time I had intended to produce "fonts" of the various lettering types used on STC lables, being that used in the word CODE, the code numbers, and the general lettering used in the warning, valve type and other lettering eg Earth, Aerial, pickup etc. As it is wont to do life has taken over, but I'll have another look at this for submission as a facility for the members of the forum.

Have just sent the STC label photos and other files to your Captogo email.

For others who may be interested the files include photos of various formats of STC lable, "Standard Telephones & Cables" and STC in their fancy fonts. Also files produced dickering to produce lables for my STC radios. If anyone else is interested, let me know and will send (almost 8MB in total).

PS Email send problem was that the outgoing server port needed changing from 587 to 25. Just how this was changed by accessing free Wifi, or needs changing after accessing free Wifi, at motels is a mystery to me, and a bit of a worry if it impacts on security.

Port 587 is an SSL port for an SMTP server and port 25 is the standard one. It shouldn't change itself in your settings unless your e-mail programme has been set to automatically look for what is available from your mail provider.

Thanks Brad.

If I press edit in outgoing server settings I see that the port is 25, with 587 given as the default.

Advanced Options in Tools has connection settings which configure proxies for Thunderbird to access the internet: set at "Use system proxy settings". There is an "auto-detect proxy settings for this network" option. Would this be the "automatically look for" that you refer to?

Hmmm, possibly. I've only ever used Outlook so I'm not sure but that may be the case.
