Well guys this baby is as strong as a ox now.The problem causing the static was a faulty valve ( audio ).When I tapped the radio basically anywhere it would be very noisy and distorted. It also had a few dodgy resistors that went high and one that was not factory I had replaced of cause with what I thought was correct but wasnt. Out of all this I am learning how to read schematics. And yes I must admit that I caused the meltdown lol. I had the IF transformer ( 1 of) sitting a little out of its hole and didn't know it was touching the frame. But all is good now and it has another 50 years on it.

I did a temperature check on the transformer this morning and after running for about 45 minutes it measured just above room temperature. Not a bad result.

Not sure how you managed to make a blank post...

Congrats on getting it going again, and especially that the transformer survived the ordeal.

Double posting is easy: But you go back & erase what's in one of them. I am a moderator on another forum: I am able to delete them on sight.: keeps the place tidy.

I usually replace the duplicate text with with "(double post)" to make clear what happened.

I am able to delete them on sight.: keeps the place tidy.

The two good admin functions, move and delete, were only ever given a moment's attention when I built this place back in 2005. At the time I thought I'd never need them so I never got around to completing the scripts that allowed the buttons to be pressed, so to say. To a great extent I still don't need them as automation keeps spammers off the site and there is a fantastic membership base here who make life easy for me with regard to things that happen far more often on other forums such as personal abuse, etc. With all that there's seldom been an incentive for me to finish that part of the site and in the past I've concentrated more on functions that everyone can use as time has always been something to think about too. The move function is a hard one to do in the live environment and I'd need to duplicate the site on my test bed to work on it - if I cock that up here it'll destroy the database. Delete is a little easier.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

One of the safeguards on the other site, is that whilst you can edit you post, only the chosen few can delete it in toto.

That rather stops the malicious from deleting others posts and allows the chosen to delete the malicious post& stuff ups.

I actually dont know how there was a double post this time but when I saw it I just deleted one of them. Anyway the little Hotpoint is a goer and whilst my wife was sleeping I snuck it into the house and into my display room lol.

The one promise I made to my wife about these radios is they must look neat before they enter the house. I am very lucky that they suit the decor of my home .
