I did mention a ground loop, which is quite common, should the chassis of the radio and turntable not be at the same potential. On a transformer set that means an effective grounding /earth wire between turntable, radio chasses and preferably mains earth.

The audio wires from cartridge to amplifier should be in shielded cable.
