Thanks all, after moving the primary to the 250/260v tap, the b+ is now 252v, the anode voltage on 6m5 is 224v and the filament voltage is now 6.0 v. Seems a fair compromise in the quest to lose that resister.

I did check R7 & R8 and they are within spec.
