Hi Carl, good job with the coil.
It sounds like the set is now working ok.
Most likely the coil characteristics are close enough to the original.
If the "alinement" procedure that Astor recommend seems to work that will confirm the coil is a good fit.
Its a bit like fitting Morris clutch to an Austin back in the 1960's.
In reality the clutch is just a stock 8" Borg and Beck with same colour pressure springs, same thing, works the same.
The more you do things like that coil fitting the more aware you become about how things work.
That is a good thing.
I'm still learning and have a loong way to go!
Fred.

I agree Fred.
This is the first time I have done a coil and it's now fairly straightforward. The next road block I can see is replacing faulty micas in the I.F Cans which I have a few sets that need that.

The Mica comment is interesting. The American sets have a lot of Silver Mica disease, but many of ours are not Silver Mica; Therefore the "whiskers" issue can't happen with them. One type of AWA one, I have never seen one failed: Mica cap here is a rare fail (lightning an exception).
In over 50 years and well over 300 sets. I have replaced around two in IF cans and they were mechanical fails.
The predominant & rare fail in ours is where there is HV DC across them. A normal IF Mica, on a primary winding, has nominally 250V DC on it not across it.
Corona discharge may be an issue? Line the inside of the can if it isn't already?

I'm with Marcc, in the 30+ years I was actively fixing and restoring radios, I cannot recall ever having to replace a capacitor in an IFT.
Are you sure, Carl?

Harold I'm pretty sure there is a problem in the I.F cans
. It may just be a broken wire. The problem is not in this set though.

One has to be ultra careful with IF's especially if they are plastic. However, corrosive wire breaks and wire breaks at terminations is never uncommon. In reality one should coat those joints.

I actually finished all the electronic repairs on this set on the weekend and blow me down after replacing the oscillator coil its perfectly aligned . How good is that ! After receiving a couple of donor chassis of group members I transposed a good speaker into it and it really performs well.
The case will go to Michael Raanan for repairs soon. I have a new dial so it looks fairly good.
This is how this radio community should be. We help each other out.
Im now sending the parts I have spare to another member in SA. To repair his set.
To everyone here who helped I really appreciate it
