I never could pronounce all those chemical names, mostly which seem to follow the German way of structuring words - just include the lot in one word.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

My 5A26 worked for about 8 days then the speaker output transformer shorted.
Can anyone suggest a suitable available replacement for 5000 ohm primary to 3 or 4 ohm secondary transformer driven by a 6V6G.
also I am missing the tone control knob.
Any help would be most appreciated.

One of the cautions I got was that line transformers were not designed for DC albeit I have used them that way.

Working in chemistry did expose me to a lot of chemicals that were longer than a page is wide, with names to match. The nomenclature endeavours to paint a picture of the structure as well as what chemical elements or components build or link it and that is why it looks complex.

The old DDT has had a couple of changes in how it was expressed & it has two planar groups joined together so that's why it starts with 2-2 and then 4-4 is a point where there is a link to the hexagonal benzene ring. at one point it was 2-2 Diclorodiphenyl 4-4 Trichloroethane and that's been changed.

Bit like Webers per square meter being change to Tesla.

If there are knobs a photo of what is required may be useful, as some of us have stray knobs that have accumulated from wrecks & estates etc.

They are a tad expensive but RS Components has a multi-taped audio transformer that would suit.

Try Mouser 546-1750AX looks like the brand new part at a sensible price.

The one I mentioned in jaycar was actually recomended by the hrsa and they discovered you dont need to pull it apart and rebuild it . I use them quite often.
There is actually a article in radiowaves about it.

In response to Carl's post I bought one from Jaycar and the results were terrible , distorted output , unless they sell two different types.
I ended up finding an old original type and it worked fine .

A good result Jim.
Although not ideal, many have had success with the Jaycar units. I just don't like the look of them sitting all shiny on an old chassis. 6 of my last 8 radio repairs have had blown output tx's. I would to find a supplier of plastic bobbins so replacements could be wound easily. 20 years ago you could buy replacement wound bobbins from Resurrection Radio in Melbourne for $25- $30.00. Fit them to your existing core and off you go.

But as Marc mentioned above, there is the Hammond part from Mouser that is designed for the job and is $24 full whack from Mouser, sign in and get trade price and it's even cheaper.
