Hello all
yesterday I acquired two sets of a Codan 6924 mk 1.
I am wondering if you can tell me, Is it possible / worthwhile to utilise one for a dabble in amateur radio, maybe by fitting a DDS VFO in place of one xtal?
I also would need to get a foundation radio licence.
or are there other ways to use this apparatus?

Yes I’d read that’s what they’re called. I’m surprised that I can find very little info about these or the hobby of amateur radio in general.
I suspect I just need to have a proper chat with someone of the fraternity, that will sort a few things out. I’d been looking out for a repairable receiver/ transmitter like a Kenwood or something, but these came up close by and I thought, what the heck. Maybe a good starting point .

Do you need the schematic? I’ve got access to a few Codan schematics but I don’t know if I’ve got ones that old but I can take a look on the weekend.
It’s hard to get the service data for old Codan radios as only dealers further up in the chain had the ability to get them but they are the wholly grail.

And a fun fact about the Codan 9323
If you have a 9323 with the v1.0 firmware and push the emergency button it allows you to tune and transmit out of band which is a bit naughty.

I guess it is a case of not expecting Australian companies from that era to be still operating, let alone still making the types of equipment they did back then. AWA is still around, but they install IT networks and provide warranty systems for other TV manufacturers these days. Breville is another company that has survived, shifting from radios to kitchen appliances - half of which they probably invented.
