Here is a AM radio tuner I made using octal valves, wax capacitors, carbon resistors and a Magic eye indicator. I housed it in a "weird" looking cabinet.

Hi Fred, that’s something else!
Why would you go for old discreet components for a new project? That boggles me a little Grin

Hi Art, the wax caps were part of the challenge!
You will notice that I tried to use parts as old as the valves.
I wanted to understand how these old components react in circuits and work together.
If I used new resistors and capacitors I might as well use transistors or build a SC kit from Jaycar!
So long as you understand the effect of series and parallel resistance inside the caps you find the old caps work fine.
Go for it, take the challenge build something with old parts and experience the thrill of smoking leaky old caps and crackly carbon resistors!

Cheers!

I take up that challenge often (look around in this area a bit) Grin
Just that the old parts aren’t caps or resistors.
I don’t think there would be any functional difference other than accuracy,
but can understand why you might consider the new parts look out of place.

Nice job in any case Smile
