I've done some basic work on investigating the Super Regenerative principle to make a practical FM radio.
Of course, all the heavy lifting has already been done in the past and on the internet, there is a great web site.
Cool 386. Just google '6C4 FM radio'.
This genius has made heaps of different SR FM circuits.
Just a matter of picking which one to try.

I have started with pulling the front end out of the 'Resonator' and sticking in MrCool's circuits.

A super regenerative radio

Cheers, Fred.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

Fascinating. The 6ES8 is pin-compatible with ECC85, often used in FM frontends. I tend to replace them with 6ES8 to get the extra gain that it provides, once you retune everything around it.

Only thing of course is that it's no longer a single-valve radio.

How about something more civilised?

6ES8 RF amp, 6BL8 mixer/osc (both TV tuner circuits) followed by a 5.5MHz IF/limiter using the small pentode, ratio detector, followed by the big pentode. Standard TV bits.

Have a look back in 2016 for my 'Musiscope'.
In this I built a valve FM receiver which was indeed 'civilized'!
That worked very well with its superhet design, 10MHz IF, proper demodulator all built onto a section of B/W IF strip.

This 'simpler' version takes a lot of understanding as to how the hell it decodes the FM signal with its 'slope detection'.
All I can say is its not logical and does it with not much fidelity!
I'll work on it to the bitter end!

Stay tuned for updates its all good fun.
Fred.
