Here we are, back with a radio!
I've started a story on a 5-valve chassis donated by a local.
I put a bit of detail onto a PDF and will send to Brad to pin to this post.
The usual question for the experts, does anybody recognise the chassis, manufactuer etc?
Cheers, Fred.

Check for a date on the electrolytics, ARTS& P is also a clue.

Oh, he turned it on. I wonder if anything blew up.
No idea of the brand.
Lots of parts to replace.

I'm thinking that the coil may be made by AEGIS which can sometimes indicate a kit radio.
That may be a Classic model BTM from 1954.

Thanks for comments guys.
Marcc no dates stamped on cardboard or alloy on electros, just yellow batch numbers painted on the red end insulators.
The ARTSnP label looks like one of the last with a high number and no other detail
Rob, yep the owner powered it up to see if it worked. No damage done, I guess the old electros got re-formed in a hurry!
I have not powered it up yep, stuck on other projects.
More info with a second look. the chassis is folded and spot welded but NOT plated.
Finish is a grey lacquer paint.
The Choke has no date, but "IRONCORE' stamped on top.
Resistors are a big spread of IRC from the big body types down to the little bitty types used in tranny radios.
Capacitors are what you see mostly Ducon wax or chocolate moulded brown horrors.
CLASSIC? BTM
yeah I see what you mean, low production suit all purposes chassis.
That valve line up matches with what they were doing.
Best clue I missed mentioning, the chassis has a stamped serial BC 54250.
(Broadcast #####) ?
Makes sense. the wiring is high class. plastic cabling, with earth bus bars run across the surface .
Hence the neatness of parts placing with caps at right angles or parallel to earth bars.
the Coils are moulded end but no RCS or similar makers name in the moulding.
Big IFTs, 2 octal valves, modern baseless 7 pin, sound like a medium production (Kit) design just like you used to see ACE radio, Classic radio, Electronic Developments and made for the cabinet makers for the big stores.

It is a Classic BC chassis.
The AORSM has two versions:
6J8GA 6U7G 6SQ7GT 6V6GT 5Y3GT in Vol. 7 & 10 and
6AN7 6AD8 6BD7 6AQ5 5Y3GT in Vols. 11,13 & 14.
I've never seen a Classic chassis that exactly matches the AORSM drawn circuits.

Thanks Mono, certainly sounds like a Classic.
That AORSM I have no contact with.
I think it was an organisation that asked for too many details to join up so I gave it a miss.
Does anybody have a circuit diagram for the second valve line up?
Not a great problem, as I can do Marcc's reverse engineering as I go and draw one up.

Fred,
The AORSM (Australian Official Radio Service Manual) was a publication of 14 volumes spanning from 1938 to 1955. These volumes contain abridged versions of schematics for a lot of the common Australian radio models during that period.

Thanks Mono my chassis looks like the 'next model' along so the basic circuit structure will be the same.
Thanks for circuit link.
Yeah GTC I think you are right, I became a member on Brads' site simply because signing up was so simple there without the 1st degree I met with other vintage/historic sites. Same with buying at Tandy and Dick Smith stores back in the 1980's I refused to give personal details (or else!) on buying stuff. I'm not interested in marketing or handing out details to scammers. I had a huge spat in a DS store when the manager refused to print out a receipt for the goods I had bought unless I coughed up full details. Resolved with name of 'Mr Cash' and address 1 Main street Sydney, Phone number 87654321. No problem at Jaycar or Edge Electric so that's how I wound up working for Gary Johnson, and not for Dick, funny how life goes.
Back to Classic, I googled around and found various pictures of Classic build radio grams and noted the same chassis and control knob layouts as this one, same 3/16" glass dial plate with no separate surround and same plastic control knob marker plates . The same punched/folded and lacquered type of chassis and 6V6s' in the output.
Thats progress. Not sure what I will finally do with this chassis, maybe make a Classic Gramophone replica?
Fred.

Back in the days when Tandy stores 'rang' sales up on carbon paper based Kalamazoo-type machines, they always demanded a name and address 'for their records in case a refund was needed'. Being wide awake to this nonsense I would give bogus Joe Bloggs type details.
Once, for fun, I gave my correct address -- because I was planning to relocate at the imminent end of the lease -- and whaddya know, not long afterwards I received a Tandy catalogue addressed to Joe Bloggs.
But wait! There's more! I also began to get Reader's Digest bumf addressed to the same Bloggs. Fancy that!

I didn't mind getting the Tandy catalogues, because back then I shopped there a lot. But I never knew why Reader's Digest sent mail.

Back in the days when Tandy stores 'rang' sales up on carbon paper based Kalamazoo-type machines...
Blimey, I remember that - and hated it. One would buy a plug or socket or a packet of LEDs and spend five minutes watching the sales clerk fill out those forms. Then they'd leave the counter for another minute to go out back and get your change.
The only place that ever demanded full personal details from me in exchange for warranty was Harris Technology. I bought an ADSL modem from their old Nth Ryde store once and they tried it on and said there was no warranty without me handing over the details. I said if that is the case then HT is in breach of the Trade Practices Act and a full refund was in order. With their parent company, Coles Myer, having a habit of letting the money do the talking, they agreed to give me the warranty they were supposed to give me in the first place without all the BS.
Another mob who try to extract mobile numbers from customers is Sydney Tools. I refuse because I did hand it over the first time and the bastards started spamming my SMS and it took about 20 tries to unsubscribe. From the second time I shopped there I just refuse point blank to hand anything over. A merchant must by law provide a warranty on everything they sell and there is no requirement for them to know who you are. You only need to keep the sales invoice.
Another mob to avoid at all costs if you don't like being spammed several times a day via e-mail is Kogan.
