Hi all,
Are there any basic circuit diagrams out there to build the basic driver circuitry for a CRT television? I've read a lot about people who've built televisions using circuit diagrams in electronics magazines, but I can't find any.
All suggestions greatly appreciated,
Chris

Radio & Hobbies described a few television kits back in the valve days. I think by the time semiconductors and colour came into vogue the circuitry would have become too complex and the price of manufactured televisions come down too much to make a solid state project worthwhile.

Do you know of any online circuit diagrams? I searched but didn't find any online.
Cheers,
Chris

Not that I am aware of.
I've never dabbled much in television so I couldn't even recommend a particular circuit.

Try paying a visit to your local library. They probably won't have anything that specialised on the shelves, but a good librarian should know how to get something on inter-library loan. Your best bet would be some serious hobbyist magazine from the late 50s when the circuits were still fairly basic and all-valve.
If there is a decent TAFE college within reach, they also might have something if they have not been persuaded to throw out all their books and ask students to buy iPads instead.

Hi Maven,
Thanks for the imput! I'll try going to the library. I'm also going to TAFE, studying electrotechnology. I'll ask around about that.

Silicon Chip sell the complete Radio, Television & Hobbies from 1939 to 1965 on DVD rom. Apart from being a fantastic read for anyone interested in vintage electronic, it also has a comprehensive "A Course in Television" in monthly instalments dating from the early '50s. Well worth a look.

Plenty or Radio and Hobbies and Partical Electronics and QST mags (available on CD) had articles to convert Cathode ray Oscillospcopes CRO's to receive TV way back in 40's the issue will soon be that no analogue TV on air in AUS NZ after december so any source of analogue PAL will be from TV signal generators..and AV off Tanberg ASI decoders..
aspect ratios will be screwed by many 16:9 transmissions as we move away from old standards..to COFDM

Chris, I think I've got an issue of RTV&H with a do-it-yourself TV project. I'll have a look.

Radio Television & Hobbies ran a project, the RTV&H 17" Television Set, from May to July 1957. Unfortunately, I've only got part three which describes the cabinet and the mounting of the picture tube. It would be difficult to find a good 70 degree CRT to make this set, anyway.
