Thanks to Ian, the set is now all standard.

I tested the incoming 1M5 first by plugging it into the IF socket and it worked as well as the 1M5 in that position.
Then I pulled the temporary 6U7 in the RF socket, put the original heater wiring back with the new 1M5.

The set then worked normally.

Job done.

Obscure: I have two "Vesta" Ignition coil testers, both with restored innards, but one has a smashed meter & no external paper work. Only circuit is one from reverse engineering. 6V vibrator.

VCT Valve and circuit tester is mains, or 6V Vibrator.
